Mumbai breathed a sigh of relief as the city police apprehended Mohammad Shariful Islam Shahzad, the accused who intruded into Saif Ali Khan’s Bandra residence and attacked the actor during an altercation. Recent investigations have revealed Shahzad’s Bangladeshi nationality and uncovered his brief employment history in Mumbai.

The 30-year-old accused, who confessed to the crime, was identified as a Bangladeshi national based on documents seized during the investigation. Further scrutiny revealed that Shahzad, under the alias Bijoy Das, worked as a housekeeper at The Blair All Day restaurant in Thane’s Hiranandani area.

Nelson Salda, the restaurant’s manager, shared details about Shahzad’s employment with IANS. “He joined us through a third-party vendor and worked from September 2024 to December 2024. As an employee, he followed standard procedures and was decent in his behavior. However, his contract was not renewed after December 15, 2024,” Salda disclosed.

At a press conference, Mumbai Crime Branch DCP Dikshit Gedam confirmed the accused’s nationality. “Primary evidence indicates he is a Bangladeshi national without valid Indian documentation. An FIR has been registered, and the accused has been arrested,” Gedam stated.

Shahzad reportedly arrived in Mumbai illegally five to six months ago. After changing his identity, he lived in various areas of the city before targeting Saif Ali Khan’s residence. His intention, according to initial reports, was robbery. The police tracked and arrested him near the Hiranandani Estate in Kasarvadavali, around 35 kilometers from Saif’s Bandra home.

The incident has raised concerns about security and the presence of undocumented individuals in the city. The case continues to be under investigation as authorities probe further into Shahzad’s background and motives.
