Bengaluru Extends Meat Ban for Aero India 2025

Bengaluru: Bracing up for airshow at Air Force Station (AFS), Yelahanka in Bengaluru city from February 10 to 14, authorities concerned of Animal Husbandry department attached to Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) extended ban on sale of meat to 13-km from AFS, Yelahanka from the previous 10-km radius ban during 2023 airshow.

The ban on sale of meat in 13-km radius from AFS, Yelahanka will remain for 26 days from Thursday. The ban on sale of meat has been ordered to keep out high altitude birds especially eagles among others coming in the way of airshows and avert a possible bird hit.

An official belonging to the animal husbandry department told Deccan Chronicle on Tuesday that a ban on sale of meat has been extended by 3-km radius for this event taking into consideration that some aircrafts need longer runways.

In its social networking post, the Ministry of Defence, Government of India stated “700 and more exhibitors are all set to showcase their innovations at Asia’s leading aerospace and defence event.”

The sale of the ban comes into effect from Thursday and continues till February 17. However, relaxation has been provided to non-veg restaurants but have been asked to take proper care of waste disposal.

An estimated 300 registered meat shops selling mutton/chicken/fish and pork have been asked to shut down their business while officials and police personnel will constantly monitor unauthorized meat sellers estimated to around 200 and even those operating meat business on Sundays and on roadsides.

Meat sellers have assured fullest cooperation for the success of the airshow, the official said and stated any violations found will attract action from authorities under BBMP Act of 2020 and also under Aircrafts Rules, 1937.

Meanwhile, a passenger advisory stated the upcoming Aero India-2025 at AFS, Yelahanka, commercial flight operations will be impacted at Kempe Gowda International Airport and at Bengaluru Airport for a few hours owing to airspaces closures from February 5 to 14.

Passengers have been asked to contact their respective airlines for details of revised or updated flight schedules and plan their travel accordingly.
