Hyderabad:As Telangana gears up for the upcoming elections to two teachers and a graduate MLC constituencies, the BJP, which holds sway among the educated class, is making an aggressive push to woo voters.
In a strategic shift, the BJP named MLC candidates well ahead of other parties on January 10. Taking a lead, the party named educationist and Peddapally resident Malka Komaraiah, who runs several educational Institutions’ for the teachers’ constituency of Karimnagar-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Medak MLC seat.
Warangal’s Puli Sarotham Reddy, who served as general secretary of the Panchayat Raj Teachers Union (PRTU) has been fielded for the Teachers’ constituency of Nalgonda-Warangal- Khammam MLC seat. C. Anji Reddy, an industrialist associated with service activity with his trusts, has been named for the Graduates’ constituency of Karimnagar-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Medak.
The tenure of the incumbent MLCs - T. Jeevan Reddy (Congress), Alugubelli Narsi Reddy (independent) and Kura Raghotham Reddy (PRTU), will end on March 29.
Senior party leader and educationist P.L. Srinivas said that they are into micro management to reach out to every voter.
“Our expertise in holding street corner meetings is a huge advantage for us. We are confident of making a clean sweep of the three seats,” Srinivas said.
Komaraiah told Deccan Chronicle that the party was in a strong position as four MPs and seven MLAs represent the region, where the MLC polls are slated to be held in February. Stating that north Telangana is a part citadel, Komaraiah said that so far 27,000 members have enrolled for the teachers’ constituency election and the number would touch 30,000 as the Election Commission has allowed enrolment of voters till the date the notification is issued.
As per the final electoral rolls for the Medak-Nizamabad-Adilabad-Karimnagar Graduates’ constituency, the total number of voters is 3,41,313.
