Cleanliness Drives Highlighted at 'Swachchha Andhra' Event

Kurnool: Roads and buildings minister B.C. Janardhan Reddy highlighted cleanliness as a collective duty during the "Swachchha Andhra - Swachchha Divas" programme in Kovelakuntla, Nandyal, on Saturday. The event featured a rally from the Panduranga Swamy temple and a village cleaning drive.

Leading a pledge, the minister urged citizens to prioritise hygiene to combat diseases like dengue, malaria, and typhoid. He appealed to residents and businesses to avoid dumping waste in canals and actively engage in cleanliness drives. Later, he inaugurated a blood donation camp at the Telugu Desam Party office in Banaganapalle, marking the 29th death anniversary of former Chief Minister Nandamuri Taraka Rama Rao.

Social welfare minister Dr. Dola Bala Veeranjaneya Swamy attended a similar event in Tanguturu mandal, stressing the Chief Minister's vision of holding "Swachchha Andhra - Swachchha Divas" every third Saturday. He detailed efforts to revive solid waste management systems and introduce liquid waste initiatives.

The minister announced plans to incentivise cleanliness, including awards on Gandhi Jayanti, and highlighted programmes such as Open Defecation Free (ODF) Plus, toilet construction for new housing projects, and waste segregation for electricity generation. State Maritime Board Chairman Damacherla Satyanarayana and others participated in the event.
