Hyderabad: Delivery agents riding without helmets, rash driving, wrong-way driving, drunken driving and unauthorised parking, which have led to accidents, were the focus of a coordination meeting between the Cyberabad police and online food delivery and bike taxi platforms
Chaired by joint commissioner of police (traffic) D. Joel Davis, the meeting focused on the responsibility of delivery platforms to make sure that their riders follow road safety norms.
It was decided that platforms would monitor traffic rule violations by their personnel and take steps to address them. To prevent impaired driving, mandatory alcohol checks will be introduced at the start and end of delivery shifts.
Riders who repeatedly break traffic rules may face penalties, which include fewer assignments, reduced incentives or even termination. Safe riders will be encouraged through rewards and higher incentives.
It was also proposed that GPS-based speed monitoring and AI-enabled alerts be implemented to track violations. Citizens will be encouraged to report infractions using dedicated apps. The Cyberabad traffic police offered to organise traffic safety training workshops for riders and operators. Delivery platforms were also asked to conduct regular road safety sessions for their personnel.
