Visakhapatnam: A diarrhoea outbreak in Billalavalasa village of the Bondapalli mandal in Vizianagaram district is under control and the number of cases is coming down, health officials said on Monday.

The first case was identified on January 17. There have been 10 cases at the government general hospital. On Monday, only three patients were being treated there and the rest had been discharged.

District medical officer Dr Jeevan Rani said the situation was under control and steps were taken to prevent further spread of the disease in the village. A medical camp was being held within the village, staffed by two doctors and a team of medical professionals, who are available day and night there, she said.

“Health teams are conducting door-to-door visits to identify more patients, if any, showing symptoms of diarrhoea. Response teams have been mobilized and they have performed pot chlorination at every household as well as at the local drinking water sources to ensure safety,” the health official said.

During a visit to Billalavalasa on Monday, the DMHO reviewed the situation and interacted with the villagers. She said safety steps are in place and the three patients currently receiving treatment are out of danger.

Jeevan Rani told Deccan Chronicle that no new cases have been registered, indicating effective containment.
