HYDERABAD: Even as the energy supply in Andhra Pradesh has gone up by 22.5% to 80,151 million units in financial year 2024 (FY24) as compared to 65,414 million units in FY20, in the first nine months of FY25 the state’s energy supply has already touched 58,555 million units, Union minister of state for power Shripad Naik said in Rajya Sabha while responding to a query by AP MP Parimal Nathwani.
The minister also said the central govt is planning to increase the country’s total installed generation capacity from all sources of energy to 900 GW by 2031-32. This includes capacities from conventional sources such as coal and lignite to renewable energy sources like solar, wind, hydro, pumped storage projects (PSP) and battery energy storage systems (BESS).
The minister pointed out that the Union power ministry, in consultation with states, has envisaged a plan to add a thermal capacity of at least 80,000 MW by 2031-32, of which 28,020 MW is already under construction and contracts for another 19,200 MW have been awarded in FY25.
He said another 36,320 MW coal and lignite-based capacity has been identified across the country and is at various stages of planning.
According to the minister, 13,997.5 MW of hydro-electric projects and 8,000 MW of PSP are under construction even as 24,225.5 MW of hydro-electric projects and 50,760 MW of PSP are under various stages of planning and are targeted to be completed by 2031-32, he added.
The minister also said that 7,300 MW of nuclear power generation capacity is under construction and targeted to be completed by 2029-30, while another 7,000 MW is under various stages of planning and approval.
Naik said the BJP-led govt has taken India from a power deficit country to power sufficient in the last 10 years by adding 2,30,050 MW of generation capacity since April 2014 to reach a current installed generation capacity of 4,62,065 MW.
Naik also said the Union ministry of new & renewable energy (MNRE) has issued bidding trajectory for issuance of RE power procurement bids of 50 GW per annum by renewable energy implementing agencies from FY24 to FY28 and foreign direct investment (FDI) has already been permitted up to 100% under the automatic route.
On transmission planning, he said as per the National Electricity Plan, about 1,91,474 circuit km of transmission lines and 1274 GVA (gigavolt ampere) of transformation capacity is planned to be added at the 220 kV and above voltage level during the 10-year period from FY23 to FY32.
