Karimnagar: In a big boost for the local agricultural community, water from Yellampalli Reservoir was officially released into Narayanpur Reservoir, providing relief to farmers in the Choppadandi constituency. This initiative was spearheaded by Congress MLA Medipally Satyam.

The water release ceremony took place at the Narayanpur pump house in Karimnagar district on Sunday, with Congress leaders and farmers in attendance. MLA Medipally Satyam, along with other party leaders, welcomed the Godavari River water.

Medipally Satyam had earlier raised the issue with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy and irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, advocating for the release of water to address the farmers' irrigation challenges. Responding positively, the government approved the transfer of Godavari water from Yellampalli to Narayanpur Reservoir.

During the event, MLA Satyam criticised the former BRS government for failing to release irrigation water over the past 10 years, especially during critical months like January. He accused BRS leaders of being unsympathetic to farmers, urging them to accept crop losses despite adverse weather conditions such as hailstorms and unseasonal rains.

In contrast, the current Congress administration has prioritised providing sufficient water to ensure crops reach the final harvest stage. The successful water release to Narayanpur Reservoir is expected to prevent crop drying and support farmers’ livelihoods.

Farmers expressed their gratitude to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, irrigation minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, and MLA Medipally Satyam for ensuring timely water supply to their fields.
