Hyderabad: AIG Hospitals on Monday unveiled its state-of-the-art NeuroCath Lab, equipped with the advanced Philips Azurion 2.2 Biplane system, supported by a dedicated NeuroICU and round-the-clock stroke specialists. This facility is designed to change stroke management by providing timely and precise care to save lives and minimise disability.
The lab, which was inaugurated by Dr G. Chandrashekar Reddy, principal secretary to Chief Minister, is operational.
On Friday, a 45-year-old woman with a completely blocked artery in her brain was brought to AIG Emergency. Within 70 minutes of her arrival, the medical team successfully performed a mechanical thrombectomy that restored complete blood flow and saved her life.
The NeuroCath Lab is equipped to handle neurovascular emergencies such as ischemic strokes, brain aneurysms and congenital vascular abnormalities. Its advanced imaging capabilities, including 2D and 3D transitions, flexible detector positioning and precise controls, enable faster diagnosis and minimally invasive interventions. These features reduce both treatment time and costs while improving the outcomes.
“Stroke is a medical emergency where every minute counts. With this NeuroCath Lab, we aim to deliver efficient, world-class care that saves lives and preserves quality of life,” said Dr D Nageshwar Reddy, chairman of AIG Hospitals.
Mechanical thrombectomy, a groundbreaking procedure for removing blood clots in ischemic stroke patients, is a main focus of the lab. If performed within a critical six-hour window, this intervention can dramatically reduce brain damage and improve recovery outcomes.
The NeuroCath Lab also features advanced tools like enhanced C-arm rotation and a specialised head immobiliser for neuro-interventionists to perform with greater accuracy.
