Early morning rain in Bengaluru on Sunday surprised residents, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting more rain for the city, south interior Karnataka, and the Malnad region.
The Karnataka State Natural Disaster Management Centre (KSNDMC), through its official X handle, issued an alert stating, "Scattered moderate rain in the southern interior, coastal, and hilly districts of the state. Dry air is likely to prevail over north interior districts. There will be moderate to heavy fog over the state and scattered showers."
Areas such as MG Road, Jayanagar, Hebbal, Sultanpalya, RT Nagar, and RR Nagar experienced light rain on Sunday morning. The unexpected showers in Bengaluru were part of a larger weather pattern linked to a cyclone forming off the eastern coast of Sri Lanka and the southwest Bay of Bengal.
According to the IMD, Bengaluru is likely to experience light rain over the next 48 hours. Sunday's temperatures are expected to range between 27°C and 17°C, dipping further to 26°C and 16°C on Monday.
The IMD has also issued a severe cold alert for the districts of Bidar, Kalaburagi, and Raichur. Residents in these areas are advised to prepare for a significant drop in temperatures. This development marks a notable shift in the state's weather, bringing rain and cooler conditions to several regions.
