Kurnool: Kanigiri MLA Mukku Ugra Narasimha Reddy said they would establish a sheep market for local farmers and announced plans for a meat factory in Kanigiri.

On Monday, he inaugurated the new sheep market near the Tobacco Board within the municipality limits.

Speaking at the event, the MLA highlighted that the Kanigiri constituency is home to approximately five lakh of the district’s 20 lakh sheep. Previously, farmers were required to transport their livestock to distant markets in Markapuram, Vinukonda, Macherla, and Chilakaluripet, incurring additional costs. However, with the new market in Kanigiri, farmers can sell their sheep directly in the town, saving both time and transportation expenses.

The MLA also reflected on the establishment of the previous market, noting that despite its potential it was abandoned when the YSRC came to power. He assured the farmers that the new market would serve their interests, making it a significant step forward for the region’s livestock economy.

Assistant director of animal husbandry Dr Ch. Venkataramireddy, Dr. Ramesh Babu, Dr. K. Aruna, and others were present at the inauguration ceremony.
