Medical student dies by suicide at MIMS college

Visakhapatnam: A 24-year-old medical student at MIMS Medical College in Nellimarla, Vizianagaram district died by suicide on Sunday, unable to cope with academic challenges. The deceased, identified as Atukuri Saimanideep from Nidadavolu in West Godavari district, was found unconscious by his fellow students.

According to Nellimarla SI Ganesh, Saimanideep was a final-year MBBS student struggling with academic backlogs. Police investigations revealed that he took the extreme step after writing a letter to his family, expressing regret for causing them distress over the years. He mentioned his mental health struggles, including anxiety, anger, and fear, especially in the past 8–9 months. The note indicated that he had been contemplating suicide but felt unable to share his thoughts with others.

In his final message, Saimanideep apologised to his parents and brother for affecting their happiness, peace, and health, writing, "You have done so much for me, but I am still hurting you. Your sleep, health, everything is lost because of me."
