Vijayawada: Minister for water resources Nimmala Ramanaidu criticised former chief minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy for surrendering Andhra Pradesh’s rights over the Godavari and Krishna waters to further his personal interests in cases related to disproportionate assets and to secure bail.

Speaking to the media near Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu’s residence at Undavalli on Friday, the minister accused Jagan Reddy of misleading the public on the sharing of Godavari and Krishna waters. He also censured Jagan Reddy’s media outlet for publishing false narratives on the issue.

Ramanaidu questioned why Jagan Reddy remained silent when the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal (KWDT) issued an order under Section 3 in 2023, despite having the support of 30 MPs.

Addressing the Polavaram project, the minister blamed Jagan Reddy for the destruction of the diaphragm wall (D-wall), which was constructed over 18 months. He also criticised the former chief minister for raising issues related to the height of the Polavaram dam in phases—41.15 metres and 45.72 metres—to store water.

He cautioned that the people of Andhra Pradesh would not tolerate attempts to tarnish the image of Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu, who is focused on the reconstruction and development of the state.
