VIJAYAWADA: Deputy Chief Minister K. Pawan Kalyan on Saturday asked people to make cleanliness an integral part of their lifestyle, while keeping their surroundings clean and tidy.

“Maintaining cleanliness is everyone's responsibility,” he underlined during the Swachh Andhra Swachh Diwas campaign at Nambur village in Pedakakani mandal of Guntur district.

On the occasion, Pawan Kalyan rode a garbage collection vehicle, apart from planting saplings. He questioned panchayat officials about dumping yards and waste management, as well as segregation of waste.

The Deputy CM said: “Swachhata is the primary aspect of Viksit Bharat @2047. We maintained significant discipline with regard to sanitation and cleanliness during the Covid-19 pandemic. We should restore that discipline to make sanitation and cleanliness an integral part of our daily lives, aiming for a garbage-free India in the future.”

He advised households to focus on segregating waste at the source to generate wealth from waste and recycle it, thereby reducing the overall waste generated.

Additionally, Pawan asked local bodies to evolve plans to generate electricity and manure using household waste. He pointed out that the state government led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has decided to observe every third Saturday of the month as Swachh Andhra Swachh Diwas to create awareness within the public about sanitation.

The Deputy Chief Minister appealed to elected representatives to actively participate in the Swachhata campaign and ensure active involvement of citizens.

On the occasion, he felicitated 35 sanitation workers for their tireless services during last year's Budameru floods in Vijayawada.

Principal secretary (Panchayat Raj and Rural Development) Shashi Bhushan Kumar, PR&RD director Krishna Teja and Guntur collector Naga Lakshmi were among those present.
