Hyderabad:The glitch that hit a joy ride at Numaish on Friday has led to intensified safety inspections and heightened caution among visitors. The incident that had left the joyriders hanging upside down and has raised questions about the adequacy of safety measures for amusement rides.

The Exhibition Society brought in a mechanical engineer specialising in amusement rides on Saturday to inspect all attractions at the Numaish. According to society secretary B. Surender Reddy, “A detailed inspection was carried out by a specialist B. Venkatesh, who confirmed that all other rides were safe. The faulty ride will not operate for the rest of this edition.”

He added that his team would soon submit a report on the same and give a recertification of all the rides.

Despite earlier approvals for the rides, the breakdown prompted an additional round of evaluations. “Visitor safety is our top priority, and we will continue to monitor and inspect rides throughout the event to ensure no further issues arise,” said Reddy.

The incident has impacted public confidence in the rides. Ticket counter staff reported an almost 50 per cent decline in the number of people opting for amusement rides.

“Hardly anyone is coming for the rides now,” said one ticket seller. His colleague shared a visitor’s tongue-in-cheek remark: “One customer jokingly asked if there would be a discount for taking a ride because it’s a gamble now. It’s clear people are hesitant.”

“The rides underwent thorough safety checks before the event began, and additional inspections were conducted after the recent incident. Visitors can be rest assured that we are doing everything possible to ensure their safety,” said Reddy.
