RPF Combats Ticket Blackmarketing With Big Data Analytics

1 month ago 8

Hyderabad: The Railway Protection Force, on Monday said that it was using advanced technology to bust ticket touting, and had arrested several gangs involved in the blackmarketing of tickets.

These efforts have led to the recovery of large quantities of illegal tickets, thereby curbing large-scale black marketing and restoring public confidence in the railway system, the RPF said in a statement.

The RPF said it was using artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse ticket booking behaviour to identify anomalies that could indicate touts operating. Machine learning (ML) algorithms were being used for real-time detection and stopping of fraudulent transactions.

The dynamic monitoring of IP addresses would identify and block multiple bookings originating from the same IP address or those utilising VPNs to mask their identity.

Other features in use were facial recognition, linking ticket bookings to biometric data, and fingerprint scanning, making mandatory biometric authentication at booking counters to enhance authenticity of transactions.

It said the adoption of cloud computing and big data analytics would help in real-time data processing of ticketing data to identify suspicious trends and predictive analysis of historical data would be utilised to implement targeted preventive measures.
