Nalgonda: A Class IX student of Mahatma Jyotiba Phule Telangana BCs Residential School for Girls in Suryapet attempted suicide in her hostel room on Monday.
The student is a native of Beebigudem in Chivvemla mandal. A hostel worker noticed the incident and alerted other students. Varshitha was rushed to the Government General Hospital in Suryapet, where her condition is reported to be critical. She had returned to the school on Sunday after the Sankranti festival vacation.
The student’s father alleged that he had dropped his daughter at the school on Monday morning and, within 45 minutes, received a call from the school staff informing him of her suicide attempt. He denied claims by the school staff that he was present on the school premises when the incident occurred and said that his daughter showed no reluctance to return to school after the holiday.
School principal Jyothi suggested that the student might be facing a health issue, though no conclusive evidence has been presented. Suryapet inspector Veeraraghavulu confirmed that a case has been registered, and an inquiry is underway to determine the reasons behind the incident. Further details are awaited as authorities investigate the matter.
