Telangana: RTC to Upgrade 97 Depots, Build New Stations

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) on Saturday announced that it would upgrade 97 depots and stations and construct new ones because of a surge in demand.

Chairing a TGSRTC meeting at Hyderabad Bus Bhavan, transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar said ridership had increased due to the successful implementation of the Mahalakshmi scheme of free travel for women.

He said the focus is on purchasing buses and creating infrastructure so that the people do not face any transportation problems.

In view of the upcoming Saraswati Pushkaram, the RTC has given approval for construction of a modern bus station in Kaleshwaram, Jayashankar Bhupalpally district.

The meeting approved the construction of bus depots at Peddapalli (Rs 11.7 crore) and Eturnagaram, Mulugu district (Rs 6.28 crore); bus stations at Mulugu (Rs 5.11 crore) and Huzurnagar, Suryapet district, (`3.75 crore).

In other decisions, Rs 17.95 crore was allocated for the construction of a modern bus station at Kodad in Suryapet district and Rs 10 crore for a similar establishment Madhira of Khammam district.

The meeting allocated Rs 51 lakh allocated for the construction of a bus station in Mangapet, Mulugu district, and Rs 95 lakh for the expansion of Manthani bus station in Peddapalli district.
