Hyderabad: The HMWS&SB resolved the long-standing issue of water contamination issue in Premnagar and New Hafeezpet in the Serilingampally mandal by separating water and sewerage pipelines, which shared the same manhole.

Deccan Chronicle had reported on the issue in a reported title ‘Drinking water, drainage mixed in Serilingampally’, on January 7.

The issue had persisted for months, with several families raising complaints about the contamination of the Manjeera water supply. Temporary fixes failed to address the root cause, causing inconvenience to the residents.

Following publication of a report on the water contamination, local officials took swift action. The pipelines passing through the manhole were restructured to ensure no further leakage or contamination occurs.

“We are relieved that this problem has been fixed after months of struggle. Clean water is a basic necessity and we’re grateful for the action taken,” said Balbheem, a resident.

Resident Radhika L., said, “It was extremely difficult to manage with contaminated water. After the report got published, the HMWS&SB team visited the area and they separated the drainage and drinking water connections, resolving the issue permanently.”
