Vijayawada: Former MLA TJ Sudhakar Babucriticised Chandrababu Naidu for targeting welfare schemes benefiting the poor during Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s tenure.
Babu highlighted Jagan’s allocation of housing pattas to 33 lakh families, creating assets worth ₹1.5 lakh crore. He accused Chandrababu of favouring political allies over the underprivileged and unfairly acquiring 1,100 acres from SC, ST, and BC farmers in Amaravati.
The Jagan administration developed YSR Jagananna colonies with ₹35,859 crore, benefiting SCs (20 per cent), STs (6 per cent), BCs, and minorities (54 per cent). Subsidised materials and free sand worth ₹15,000 were also provided.
Babu warned against dismantling the Village Secretariat system, which created 1.5 lakh jobs, urging Chandrababu to prioritise housing for the poor.
VMC launches Swachh Andhra Swachh Diwas
Vijayawada: The Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (VMC) organised a city-wide cleanliness drive on Saturday under the Swachh Andhra - Swachh Diwas campaign across 64 wards. Government Whip and Vijayawada Central MLA Bonda Uma Maheswara Rao, Vijayawada East MLA Gadde Ram Mohan Rao, and city mayor Rayana Bhagya Lakshmi launched the initiative.
Bonda Uma emphasised public awareness and collective responsibility in maintaining cleanliness, urging citizens to pledge their support. Mayor Bhagya Lakshmi stressed cooperation with the VMC by using designated waste bins, while MLA Gadde Ramamohan Rao highlighted cleanliness as essential for public health and future generations.
VMC in-charge commissioner Dr D. Chandrasekhar outlined activities, including waste removal, drainage cleaning, and mosquito control using drones. Public participation was central to the campaign’s success.
